Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver (2024) ☹️

I had moderate hopes for this one. Part 1 gave us just enough setup—it wasn’t too cheesy and let us connect with the characters enough to care about their journey. But instead of tying everything together, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver feels even less cohesive.

Kora (Sofia Boutella) is a character brimming with potential, yet it feels squandered here. That’s not Sofia’s fault—she delivers a strong performance despite the writing. The same goes for Atticus (Ed Skrein). Skrein has a way of commanding the screen, and as in Deadpool and Alita: Battle Angel, he absolutely shines as a villain. In fact, the nature of their performances being so excellent only makes it more frustrating that the story doesn’t rise to match the actors’ talent.

As someone who loves action and sci-fi, I can’t help but mourn the lost opportunity. Sci-fi can easily contain richness and depth, but this was feature was only rich in its visuals. Like coffee, if sci-fi is not exquisite, it’s generally not worth your time.
