This is the Superman story I’d been waiting for someone to tell. It takes the character seriously, treats his powers like something heavy to carry, and gives us a hero who has to figure out who he is before he can save anyone.
Henry Cavill is the living embodiment of Superman! He plays Clark as someone genuinely unsure of his place in the world, not the confident do-gooder we usually get. There’s real weight to his struggle, and he sells it in every scene.
What I loved most is how he spends time drifting from job to job just trying to figure out who he is – working fishing boats and hitchhiking across the country says so much without spelling it out.
The opening on Krypton grabbed me right away. It’s a dying, ancient-looking world, and starting with loss instead of triumph sets the tone. This isn’t a happy origin story. It’s about a guy who lost everything before he knew he had it.
Michael Shannon is terrifying as Zod. He’s no cartoon villain. He believes what he’s doing is right, and that makes him scarier. Amy Adams gives Lois real backbone too. She digs into the story instead of standing around waiting.
And that score. Hans Zimmer nails it. Those thunderous drums during Clark’s first flight gave me chills.
Yes, the final battle levels half of Metropolis, and I get why some folks had a problem with that. For me, it didn’t sink anything. This is big, serious, and full of heart.
If you want a Superman film that treats the character like a person carrying something enormous, this is it. Watch it.
