Hi, I’m Daniel Hinkson, and How To Movie is where I write about every film I watch.

I cannot get enough when it comes to movies. They are my passion and my favorite pastime. Whether I need a recharge or want to celebrate something, nothing compares to a trip to the theater.

What you’ll find here

Short reviews, the kind you can read in a minute, with a verdict at the end you can actually act on. I review mostly new releases, with deep cuts going back to the 1970s. Some of them I watch with my kids, and those conversations on the way home end up in the reviews too.

How the ratings work

Not everyone connects with numbers, and rating a movie shouldn’t feel like a math problem. So every review ends on one of four faces, tied to how the movie made me feel.

• 🤩 Must Watch. Mind-blown … expectations exceeded … just wow!
• 😀 Great. It. Was. SO GREAT!
• 😊 Good. Okay, that was worth watching … but not amazing.
• ☹️ Skip. Ugh! What a waste of time!

The films I love most go on Founder’s Favorites, guilty pleasures very much included.
