Promising setup, uneven delivery—and one scene that went too far.
Going into No Hard Feelings, I was optimistic. The premise had a ton of potential, and the trailer was genuinely funny. Jennifer Lawrence is a strong comedic presence, and I was curious to see her step into a more raunchy, irreverent role. And to be fair, there are some laughs here—several scenes play well, and Lawrence gives it her all. But overall, the movie didn’t land for me.
What really threw me off was a particular scene that I can’t not mention: the full-frontal nude beach brawl. It’s meant to be over-the-top and unexpected, and sure, some will find it hilarious. But for me, it felt jarring—like it was inserted more for shock value than genuine comedic payoff. It’s not that I’m opposed to edgy comedy, but context matters. The scene was teed up as a romantic moment, only to take a bizarre left turn that didn’t feel earned. Compare that to a film like Baywatch (2017), which also included nudity but did so in a way that matched the tone and context. Here, it just felt off.
Aside from that, much of the humor doesn’t go much further than what’s already in the trailer. Good comedies usually have a few surprise gags or heartfelt beats that elevate the material. No Hard Feelings felt like it plateaued early and never really rose above its own setup.
That’s not to say it’s a bad film—it just didn’t hit the mark I was hoping for. I found myself wishing it leaned more into character chemistry or delivered a smarter take on the “hired to date someone” trope. The potential was there, but the execution left me wanting more.
If you’re curious, it’s worth a watch. But don’t expect it to go far beyond what you’ve already seen in the trailer.
