Passengers (2016) 🤩

Passengers is easily one of my favorite sci-fi movies. The premise alone, as teased in the trailer, is gripping—but the film itself takes that setup and delivers something even better.

The story follows Jim (Chris Pratt), a mechanic who wakes up 90 years too early on a spaceship carrying thousands of sleeping passengers. His isolation is palpable. The film forces you to feel the weight of his loneliness, making you experience every moment of his increasing despair. This is key—because when he makes the impossible decision to wake up Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence), the audience has already been put through the emotional wringer, making his choice understandable, if not at least somewhat justifiable.

And Jennifer Lawrence? She’s absolutely standout. She brings so much depth to Aurora—a journalist with ambition, talent, and an adventurous spirit, now trapped in an impossible situation. It’s the classic setup: the beautiful, accomplished woman stranded with a charming, working-class guy well beneath her station. And yet, their romance never feels forced. The chemistry between Pratt and Lawrence is completely believable, making their relationship one of the film’s biggest strengths.

Beyond the love story, the film thrives on tension and stakes. The challenges Jim and Aurora face—both emotionally and physically—keep the movie engaging from start to finish. And while it’s easy to classify Passengers as a romance, at its core, it’s a story about what it truly means to be alone and what each of us might do to survive—or even thrive.

Final thoughts? Passengers is exceptional. It’s visually stunning, emotionally compelling, and delivers a unique take on sci-fi storytelling. If you’re looking for a sci-fi film with real emotional weight and a gripping moral dilemma, this one is a must-watch.
