The Watchers was a fun, intriguing watch with a definite Shyamalan flair. What makes it even more fascinating is that the film is written and directed by Ishana Shyamalan, M. Night Shyamalanâs daughter. Itâs clear that storytelling runs in the family, but Ishana brings her own fresh take to the eerie, suspenseful vibe her father is known for.
The story revolves around a mysterious compound in the middle of a dense forest and the unseen creatures that come out at night. The setting is perfectâisolated, atmospheric, and full of secrets waiting to be uncovered. Just don’t break the rules! Thereâs a palpable sense of intrigue that pulls you in, making you feel like youâre piecing together the mystery alongside the characters.
Dakota Fanning shines as Mina, the newest addition to the group. Sheâs bold, curious, and constantly questioning the rigid rules everyone else seems resigned to follow. While her defiance causes plenty of tension and problems within the group, it also leads to key discoveries about the compoundârevelations that others hadnât come close to finding in all their time there. Fanningâs performance is compelling, making Mina a standout character.
The moments of tension are wonderfully crafted. There are scenes that will have you gripping your seat, your pulse quickening with every shadow and sound. Ishana does an excellent job of building suspense and delivering just enough scares to keep you hooked.
The ending, however, might feel a little soft to some viewers. If youâve seen The Village, youâll understand the vibeâitâs thought-provoking and emotional, but it might not satisfy those looking for a dramatic or shocking finale. Still, it fits the tone of the story and leaves you with plenty to think about.
