The Equalizer 3 (2023) 🤩

***SPOILER***

The Equalizer 3 closes the trilogy with a bang, securing its spot as my second favorite of the three (nothing beats the first). The story feels fitting: Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) seeks retirement in a quaint Italian town, but trouble finds him, as always, and balance must be restored before he can ride off into the sunset.

The opening scene is brilliant. Rather than a taxing 10-minute action sequence, we’re shown the aftermath of McCall’s handiwork—silent, efficient, and devastating. We still get to see him wipe out a handful of bad guys, but the subtlety works beautifully, especially as Denzel, while still magnetic, faces the natural limitations of age in action-heavy roles. This narrative choice was both clever and impactful.

The story follows familiar beats: a criminal organization, a ruthless leader, and McCall’s unrelenting pursuit of justice. But a standout addition is Emma Collins (Dakota Fanning), an FBI agent with intriguing layers and a connection to McCall. Her presence adds depth and dimension to the action.

One unforgettable scene comes two-thirds into the film, as McCall enters an alleyway. His haunting demeanor oozes menace—he’s not just a man; he’s the embodiment of fear. For his final kill here, he locks eyes with his victim, savoring the moment like a master chef appreciating a rare delicacy. It’s chilling, poetic, and pure cinema.

If you’re a fan of Denzel or The Equalizer franchise, this is a must-watch. It’s gritty, thrilling, and a satisfying send-off for McCall’s story.
