The Killerās Game isnāt a movie you rave about to your friends, but itās a decent choice if youāre craving some popcorn action and canāt decide what to watch. If youāve spent any time on this site or reading my reviews, you know how much importance I place on movie trailers. While the trailer for The Killerās Game does a fine job setting expectations, I think it oversells the film ever so slightly.
First, it highlights the production company behind John Wick and pairs that with some over-the-top action sequencesāa nice touch. Then thereās the song choice: Frank Sinatraās āLive Until I Die,ā playing throughout the trailer. A classy tune like this, paired with an assassin, hints at James Bond-level sophistication. Finally, the trailer mixes in cheesy yet funny jokes, suggesting a Kingsman-style vibeāequal parts cheeky and stylish.
But the final product? Less Bond polish, more over-the-top chaos. Donāt get me wrong: the movie is funny, and the action sequences are a blast. But the trailer sets you up to expect a self-aware, sharply executed production, and the film doesnāt quite deliver.
Dave Bautista as Joe is a modern-day Arnold Schwarzeneggerāsolid, imposing, and serviceable. Terry Crews as Creighton Lovedahl brings his trademark humor and charm, delivering consistent laughs. And Pom Klementieff as Antoinette is a standout. Seeing her pivot from Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy to this role is a remarkable 180, and she absolutely nails it. That said, her performance, while great, isnāt enough to carry the film.
Overall, The Killerās Game is a solid watch if you temper your expectations. Go in looking for fun, not finesse, and you wonāt be disappointed.
