Young Washington (2026) 😀

Young Washington was a real surprise for me. Angel Studios still feels like a newer player in this space, but they’ve been releasing more films lately, and I like the direction they’re heading. Frankly I’m excited to see what they do next.

When I think of top-tier historical dramas, Hidden Figures, Lincoln, and The King’s Speech come to mind. I wouldn’t put this in that flawless group, but it gets closer than I expected. The pacing is steady and sometimes has that BBC period-drama rhythm you might associate with Pride and Prejudice or Little Women. For me, that wasn’t a problem. It fit the era and gave the story room to breathe.

The best choice here is focusing on George Washington before the legend. We hear so much about the general, the Revolutionary War, and the founding of the nation, but far less about the experiences that shaped him first. That angle gives the movie a clear hook and keeps it from feeling like a history-class recap.

The performances are strong, and most of the characters feel like they belong. A few don’t add much, but not enough to slow things down. The sets and costumes also do a lot of work, giving everything a grounded feel without making it stiff.

Verdict: If you’re on the fence, don’t put it off. This is a strong, well-made historical drama about the early events that helped form one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen.
