– A Darker, Thoughtful Close to the Saga
The Rise of Skywalker might be one of the most polarizing films in the Star Wars universe, but I really enjoyed it. I’ll admit upfront—I’m not a die-hard Star Wars fan. I’ve seen and appreciated all the movies, but I’m not someone who holds tightly to the lore. Maybe that’s what gives me a little more room to enjoy what’s on screen without the weight of expectation. Either way, this film worked for me.
There’s a darker tone that runs through the movie, and I liked that. It gave the story weight and made the emotional stakes feel more grounded. Both Rey and Kylo Ren spend the film wrestling with who they are and what they want to become. Their arcs continue to be fascinating, and the tension between them builds in a satisfying, if at times complicated, way.
Rey’s lineage reveal was a bold choice, and I found it compelling. It adds a layer of complexity to her journey and makes her decisions feel even more earned. Rather than being a “chosen one” by bloodline in the traditional sense, her story becomes about defining her own path—something I think really worked thematically.
The pacing in this one is a little more deliberate, which actually gave the film a suspenseful feel. It doesn’t rush its major beats, and there’s a sense of finality that hangs over everything. Visually, the film is stunning. From the wreckage of the Death Star to the eerie presence of Emperor Palpatine, every set piece adds to the mood.
Some fans may not agree with all the choices, but The Rise of Skywalker brings the trilogy to a close with heart, darkness, and just enough hope. It honors the journey while allowing its characters to evolve—something I really appreciated.
