A globe-trotting spy thriller with potential—but not quite enough punch.
Going into Heart of Stone, I was genuinely excited. A high-stakes, international spy thriller with Gal Gadot at the center? Sounds like a great time. And while there are glimmers of promise throughout, the film ultimately doesn’t leave much of an impression.
The premise is solid enough—a covert operative working to protect a mysterious AI weapon known as “The Heart.” There’s espionage, betrayal, and sleek locations across Europe and the Middle East. On paper, it’s the kind of story that could’ve blended Mission: Impossible scale with a grounded emotional core. But the execution just doesn’t run as deep as it should.
Gal Gadot certainly looks the part, and there’s no denying her screen presence. That said, her performance felt a little one-note. It’s possible that the direction she was given didn’t allow much room to stretch, but coming off the strength of Wonder Woman, I was hoping to see a bit more range. Instead, it felt like more of the same—competent, but not compelling.
There are a few action sequences that are fun to watch, especially a high-altitude skydive that’s visually impressive, and a motorcycle chase that keeps the energy up. But these moments are scattered, and without emotional depth behind them, the stakes never fully land.
Supporting performances from Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt add some energy, but the story stays fairly predictable. There’s a sense that the film is trying to set up a franchise, but it struggles to lay a strong enough foundation.
Heart of Stone isn’t terrible—it’s just forgettable. A missed opportunity for something sharper, smarter, and more memorable. With this much talent on screen, I was hoping for more.
