To say Deadpool & Wolverine was highly anticipated is an understatement. And while it doesn’t quite top the original for me (that’s still the crown jewel of the franchise), it’s a solid second place.
One thing I don’t love about movies with this level of hype is the sheer saturation of marketing. Between featurettes, teasers, and endless news of cast and cameos, it’s easy to build sky-high expectations. And I think that happened here. Don’t get me wrong, the movie crushed it at the box office, but with all that publicity, it should have been better than the first—and it wasn’t.
That said, there’s a lot to love here! Nicepool was a hilarious addition, and Dogpool? Perfection. Wesley Snipes reprising his role as Blade was a fantastic treat, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit (complete with that accent) was a chef’s kiss moment. And can we talk about Henry Cavill’s character, “Cavillrine”? I mean, come on—absolute genius!
Speaking of genius, this movie gave me my all-time favorite post-credits scene. Chris Evans, long adored as Captain America, reprises his earlier Marvel role, Johnny Storm. In the film, Deadpool throws Johnny under the bus with Nova, leading Nova to literally vaporize him. At first, the movie makes you think Johnny was unfairly accused. But the post-credits reveal? Turns out Johnny did say all those horrible things about Nova, and the moment is capped off with an A-bomb of profanity that had the entire theater in stitches. From Captain America to potty-mouth-Johnny, this was a fantastic 180.
Now, let’s talk story. It’s serviceable, but let’s be honest—no one watches Deadpool for the story. You’re here for the action and the one-liners, and this movie delivers both in spades.
If you’re in the mood for a laugh, look no further. Deadpool & Wolverine brings the chaos, humor, and surprises fans crave, and while it doesn’t quite surpass the original, it’s still a blast from start to finish.
