Quick answers
- Do I need Apple Music?
- For Name That Soundtrack, yes. The game plays full tracks from the Apple Music catalog through the subscription on the host’s device, rather than 30-second previews. Movie Trivia needs no subscription at all.
- Does everybody need the app?
- No. Movie Night runs from one phone. The host plays the clip or reads the question, the room shouts, and the host taps who got it first.
- Can we play with young kids?
- Yes. Turn on Family friendly and every clip, question and quote comes from a G, PG or PG-13 movie. There’s also an era picker, so you can stick to the films the kids actually know.
- Where do the songs come from?
- A hand-curated list of film scores and soundtrack songs, each one resolved to the Apple Music catalog and checked by ear. A cover version or a wrong match is refused rather than guessed.
- Where do the movie details come from?
- Film titles, years, posters, directors, cast and composers come from TMDb. Movie Night uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.
- Are the famous quotes accurate?
- Every quote has been found word for word in a transcript of that year’s film before it ships, and a misquote round only exists where the film demonstrably does not say the famous version.
- Does it cost anything?
- No. Movie Night is free, with no in-app purchases and no ads.
