When We First Met is a total delight. I went in expecting a sweet, lighthearted rom-com, and that is exactly what it delivers.
Noah, played by Adam DeVine, gets a chance to relive the night he first met Avery, played by Alexandra Daddario, thanks to a magical photo booth. At first, it feels like a simple second-chance fantasy, but every do-over makes things messier. The movie gets plenty of laughs out of the setup without letting the gimmick take over.
DeVine is the main reason it works. He gives Noah the right mix of awkward, desperate, and weirdly lovable, so even when he is making terrible choices, he is still easy to follow. Daddario is great too. Avery is smart, funny, direct, and believable as the person Noah cannot stop thinking about. Their scenes move fast and have a fun, easy rhythm.
What surprised me is how much heart sneaks in. Noah’s obsession with fixing one perfect night starts messing with his friendships, his family, and his own sense of self. The movie slowly becomes less about winning the girl and more about growing up enough to understand what love actually looks like.
Some of the supporting characters could use more room, and not every joke lands equally hard. But the leads carry it, the pace stays light, and the emotional turn feels earned enough to stick.
Verdict: This is a funny, feel-good rom-com with a clever hook and more heart than expected. It is easy to recommend, and it left me smiling.
