The Holiday is one of those rom-coms that never gets old—indeed it is a true treasure!
As a movie addict, I love that Amanda (Cameron Diaz) builds movie trailers for a living, and the film even features narration by the legendary Hal Douglas—what a treat! Miles (Jack Black), on the other hand, composes scores in Hollywood, and fittingly, we’re graced with music by none other than Hans Zimmer, delivering some unforgettable classics. This one in particular is my favorite:
The story follows two women desperate for a break from their lives—and their heartbreaks. Amanda (Cameron Diaz), a driven, career-focused professional, decides to escape, and attempt relaxation (what’s that?), after a personal setback. What starts as a casual holiday fling with the dashing Graham (Jude Law) quickly evolves into something far deeper—something she didn’t even realize she was missing.
On the flip side, Iris (Kate Winslet) trades homes with Amanda in a bid to leave behind the pain of unrequited love. In the Hollywood magic of Amanda’s world, she crosses paths with Miles (Jack Black), a kindred spirit trapped in his own toxic relationship. Together, they rediscover their self-worth, let go of the past, and find something beautifully unexpected: each other.
This movie is a staple in my home, especially during the holidays, and I’m confident it will find a special place in your heart too. The Holiday is a warm, feel-good classic, perfect for any time of year.
