This. Was. Epic! I cannot overstate what an incredible story Rise of the Guardians delivers. Though it doesn’t take place specifically at Christmas (or Easter), that doesn’t stop us from meeting an unforgettable version of St. Nick (voiced by Alec Baldwin). Picture a towering, muscle-bound Santa with a Russian accent, on one forearm in big tattooed letters “Naughty,” and on the other “Nice.” And the fun doesn’t stop there! We also get Bunny—the Easter Bunny—voiced by Hugh Jackman, straight-up Aussie and absolutely fantastic. Honestly, this film feels like a gift to humanity.
At its heart, the story centers on Jack Frost (Chris Pine), who isn’t one of the Guardians but is unexpectedly called up to join their ranks when the Man in the Moon sees potential in him that no one else can. Jack stumbles along the way but ultimately discovers his unique purpose and what he can offer to protect the dreams of children.
The antagonist, Pitch (aka the Boogeyman, but not the John Wick rendition), is brought to life by Jude Law, and it is sheer perfection. His voice adds just the right mix of menace and intrigue. The humor is sharp, the message is heartfelt, the artwork is stunning, and the entire production is a timeless masterpiece—equally enjoyable for kids and adults alike.
If you haven’t seen Rise of the Guardians, do yourself a huge favor and add it to your watchlist. It’s a magical, thrilling ride you won’t regret!
