Before diving into the movie, can I just say how thrilled I am to see Lindsay Lohan back in leading roles? She’s truly gifted, and I hope we are seeing the beginning of a long and exciting resurgence for her career!
Our Little Secret is a solid rom-com, perfect if you’re in the mood for something light and heartwarming. The animated cut-scenes are an absolute delight, cleverly bringing the audience up to speed on how Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding) fell in love. These scenes, reminiscent of Up, also offer a peek into their vibrant relationship. While not every romantic film needs this storytelling approach, it works beautifully here, setting the stage for the awkwardness that follows.
The story itself isn’t groundbreaking—former lovers navigating an uncomfortable reunion while trying to keep their past under wraps—but it’s executed well. Avery and Logan make a cute couple. Their chemistry isn’t sizzling, but it’s authentic and perfectly suited for this type of film. They avoid the Hallmark-movie trap, finding a “just right” balance that feels natural and engaging. Much of this success is thanks to Lohan and Harding, whose performances keep the romance believable.
A standout addition is Kristin Chenoweth as Erica, the fiercely protective mother of Cameron (Jon Rudnitsky). Erica is a monarch in her own right, ruling her home with ironclad authority and refusing to let just anyone steal her “baby boy.” Chenoweth brings humor and energy to every scene, adding an extra layer of fun to the film.
It’s funny, heartwarming, and set at Christmas—what more could you ask for? If you’re looking for an easygoing movie to brighten your evening, Our Little Secret is the perfect choice.
