There’s a soft sweetness to One Night Only (2026) that’s easy to like, even when the movie itself doesn’t quite come together. It’s a cute, gentle romance, and the chemistry between Allie and Owen is subdued rather than electric. But it’s still enough to get you rooting for them, which matters more than you’d think in a movie like this.
The premise is an odd one. It asks you to check reality at the door and just go with it. To its credit, the movie knows how ridiculous the setup is and tries to lean into that silliness. It doesn’t always pull it off, but I appreciated the effort instead of pretending the whole thing made perfect sense.
My biggest issue is the structure. The two leads meet, part ways, then meet again, and the movie runs that cycle one too many times. After a while you can feel it spinning in place. This thing is easily 20 minutes too long, and trimming that back would have made everything tighter and sweeter.
The pacing is otherwise fine, and the ending lands about where the rest of the movie does. It’s soft. Still cute, but not the kind of finish that stays with you. There’s no big swing here, no moment that turns a pleasant watch into something you’d tell people about.
So where does that leave it? This is a movie for a very specific person, those who absolutely love romcoms. If that’s not you, there’s not enough here to win you over.
