A Quiet Place Part II (2021) 😀

A Quiet Place Part II had a tough job. The first movie came out of nowhere, and sequels to surprise hits usually stumble. This one doesn’t. It’s tense, smart, and just as nerve-racking as the original.

It opens with a flashback to the day the creatures arrived. A sunny small-town afternoon. A kids’ baseball game. Then chaos. It’s one of the scariest openings I’ve seen in years, and it hooked me within minutes.

From there, the story picks up right where the first film left off. Evelyn, Regan, Marcus, and the new baby leave the farm and head into the unknown. They run into Emmett, an old neighbor who has lost nearly everything. Cillian Murphy is great here: worn down, bitter, and still a decent guy somewhere underneath.

But the real star is Millicent Simmonds. Her character, Regan, takes over the story, and Simmonds carries it like a pro. Her stubborn push toward a distant radio station drives the whole movie, and I was with her every step.

John Krasinski knows exactly how to use silence. Every creaky floorboard and snapped twig had me holding my breath. He splits the family up and cuts between their storylines, so the tension never lets up.

Is it as fresh as the first one? Not quite. The surprise is gone, and you can feel it. But it’s scary and satisfying, and it earns its ending.

If the first film had you gripping the armrest, this one will too. Just keep the popcorn quiet.
