My Old Ass (2024) 😊

***SPOILER***

My Old Ass is a refreshingly unique film. After a powerful trip on mushrooms, young Elliott (Maisy Stella) gains the ability to see her future self (Aubrey Plaza). With her future self’s phone number saved, Elliott can call into the future for advice. The most urgent warning? Stay away from Chad (Percy Hynes White).

But the twist is that future Elliott only gives this advice because Chad is an extraordinary, stand-up guy with whom she falls madly in love—only to lose him to a critical illness. Aubrey Plaza brings raw vulnerability to this role, beautifully portraying the scars of love and loss. Director Megan Park deserves credit for capturing the depth and poignancy of this emotional journey. Ultimately, future Elliott realizes her initial advice was short-sighted; it truly is better to have ā€œloved and lost than never to have loved at all.ā€

This creative approach to storytelling is both touching and effective. If you’re in the mood for something outside the Hollywood cookie-cutter formula with standout performances, My Old Ass is worth your time.
