Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) 🤩

Plenty of people hated this one. I’m not one of them.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is big, serious, and heavy, and I loved every minute. Don’t expect a joke every five seconds. This lives closer to The Dark Knight than The Avengers, and it’s built on a real question: what happens when a god shows up and nobody can stop him?

Ben Affleck steals the show. His Batman is older, angrier, and tired of burying people. Twenty years on the job, and you feel every one. His fights hit like a truck, and that warehouse rescue is still one of the best Batman fights ever filmed.

Henry Cavill gets more to chew on this time. His Superman keeps saving people while half the world fears him, and you watch it grind him down. Jesse Eisenberg plays Lex Luthor as a twitchy, fast-talking genius, and he’s weirdly fun. Holly Hunter barely gets screen time as Senator Finch, yet she makes every scene count.

Zack Snyder frames nearly every shot like a comic book panel. Metropolis glows gold. Gotham is cold and gray. You always know whose world you’re in.

Is it crowded? Yes. The middle drags, and some of it could go. But I’ll take a superhero movie that tries too much over one that barely tries.

Then there’s the Martha scene. People love to mock it, but they miss the point. Bruce spends the whole movie seeing Superman as a threat, not a person. One name, his own mother’s, forces him to see the man in front of him. I got chills.

If the noise kept you away, give it another shot. It’s deeper than you’ve been told and better than you remember.
