Solid Performances, But Something’s Missing
Land of Bad is one of those movies that does a lot of things okay but never quite reaches the next level. It’s not bad, but it’s also not particularly memorable. While there are some strong elements—especially Russell Crowe’s performance—the film struggles to fully engage its audience.
Crowe is easily the highlight here. He delivers a strong, commanding performance that adds some much-needed weight to the film. His presence keeps things grounded, and whenever he’s on screen, the movie is at its best. But beyond that, Land of Bad doesn’t quite hit the mark.
The pacing is on the slower side, which isn’t necessarily a problem—plenty of great films take their time building tension. But here, it feels like the movie drags more than it builds. There’s a fine line between slow-burn storytelling and just feeling slow, and this one leans toward the latter. Some audiences might find it hard to stay fully engaged, especially since the story itself doesn’t have the depth or emotional pull to make up for the pacing.
And that’s really the biggest issue—there’s something missing. Maybe it’s depth, maybe it’s stronger character development, or maybe it’s just that extra spark that separates good movies from great ones. Whatever it is, its absence makes it hard to truly get invested. The film has all the right pieces—action, tension, solid performances—but it never fully comes together in a way that makes it stand out.
At the end of the day, Land of Bad is a decent watch for those who are already interested in it, but it’s not an easy recommendation. It’s the kind of movie that some will enjoy, but many will forget not long after watching.
