A fun sendoff with familiar flair—but maybe it’s time for a new adventure.
Dial of Destiny is a solid and entertaining entry in the Indiana Jones franchise—and definitely a step up from Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It checks all the right boxes for a big-budget blockbuster: action set pieces, globe-trotting puzzles, and a cast full of recognizable names. It pays proper tribute to what came before, especially for longtime fans.
Harrison Ford once again dons the fedora with confidence and grit, and it’s great to see him in the role one last time. The film also brings in Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who adds some energy and wit to the mix. Their dynamic works well, and she brings a fresh perspective without trying to replace Indy outright.
The story? It’s sufficient. There’s a lot of motion—chases, riddles, ancient relics—but it doesn’t quite leave a lasting impression. The magic of The Last Crusade came from its emotional core, its sense of awe and wonder. Dial of Destiny, by comparison, feels more like a formula at work. That’s not a bad thing, necessarily. Sometimes formulas are what make a movie work. But in this case, it left me wanting more.
Which brings me to a bigger point: maybe it’s time for a reboot. Like the James Bond franchise, I think Indiana Jones could benefit from a fresh start. A new actor, a slightly grittier tone, and a story that leans more into mystery and clever twists—something in the spirit of Knives Out or National Treasure. Done right, that could truly revive the franchise for a new generation.
As it stands, Dial of Destiny is fun, nostalgic, and easy to enjoy. It’s not groundbreaking—but for fans, it’s still worth the ride.
