– Gritty Action and Great Performances, But the Story Falls Short
Havoc is one of those movies that has a lot going for it on the surface—gritty action, strong performances, and a sleek visual style—but it doesn’t quite stick the landing when it comes to the story. I watched it recently and while it was a decent watch overall, it never really elevated beyond just okay.
Tom Hardy, as always, puts everything into his role. He brings intensity and physicality to every scene, and he’s one of the biggest reasons the movie holds your attention. The action sequences are another major highlight. They’re raw, brutal, and really well-choreographed. If you’re in it for the fights, this delivers.
What I appreciated most were the moments of pause—those quiet scenes that gave the audience a chance to reflect. The film clearly tries to create emotional weight and give its characters depth, but the problem is that the story doesn’t rise to meet that same ambition. The narrative itself is fine, but never quite gripping. It moves forward without ever fully pulling you in, and that lack of real narrative high points makes those “heavy” moments feel a little hollow.
The pacing is solid, which helps keep things from dragging, but pacing works best when it’s attached to a compelling arc. In Havoc, the rhythm is there, but the melody is missing. The stakes never feel quite high enough, and the emotional threads don’t land as hard as they want to.
That said, it’s not a bad movie—it’s just not a great one either. There’s effort here. It looks great, it’s acted well, and the atmosphere is moody and tense. But without a stronger core story, Havoc ends up feeling like a stylish package without quite enough inside.
