Caddo Lake is a solid sci-fi film that will (likely) keep you guessing until the very end. If you’ve seen the Netflix series Dark, this will feel familiar. The big disclaimer here, though, is that a well-made TV show has far more screen time to dive deeper into its story. While Caddo Lake may not quite reach the same heights as Dark, the fact that it delivers such a compelling mystery in a feature-length format is a huge credit to its creators.
One thing you’ll notice is that the film is labeled as a “Thriller,” and I’m not sure that’s entirely accurate. A true thriller keeps you on the edge of your seat, holding your breath in nail-biting tension. Caddo Lake isn’t that. Instead, it’s a quieter experience—you’ll likely find yourself sitting back, comfortably immersed in watching the story unfold rather than gripping the armrest.
The acting is solid across the board. While no single performance is earth-shattering, the cast delivers well enough to match the quality of the story. What truly shines, though, is the film’s attention to detail. The mystery is carefully constructed to keep you guessing. Sure, you’ll form theories as the story progresses, but I’d wager most of those theories will turn out to be wrong—another testament to how well the film is crafted.
If this review feels a bit more vague than my usual ones, that’s intentional. The mystery is the reason to watch this film, and I don’t want to spoil it. Check out the trailer. If it piques your interest, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy Caddo Lake. It’s worth a watch.
