Sinners delivers a fresh and unique take on the vampire genre, and while it’s not without flaws, there’s a lot to enjoy here. Michael B. Jordan is fantastic in the lead role—commanding, charismatic, and fully dialed in. And it’s not just him—the entire cast brings their A-game. Everyone feels locked into the tone and energy of the film, which isn’t always the case in genre movies like this, so it was a real treat to see.
One of the most unexpected and welcome surprises was the inclusion of blues music. It’s more than just background flavor—the music is woven into the lore in a way that adds depth and style to the film. It gives the vampires a vibe that feels grounded in culture and history, which makes the world more immersive.
The story itself is solid and kept me engaged throughout, but it definitely left a few threads hanging. The biggest miss for me was the group of vampire hunters we’re introduced to early on. They seem poised to be an important part of the story, and then… they’re gone. Not circling back to them felt like a missed opportunity to add dimension and stakes to the narrative.
There are also a few moments that don’t quite make sense within the world the film builds. At times, the vampires would charge in, kill several people, and then just… leave. Not because they were being forced out or repelled—just an unexplained retreat. It felt inconsistent and begged for some sort of narrative explanation that never came.
The ending was okay. It’s definitely unique, and I appreciate the effort to do something different, but it also felt anticlimactic. You want that final moment to really land, and this one didn’t quite stick.
Still, Sinners brings enough originality, style, and standout performances to make it worth the watch—especially for fans of the genre.
