Interview with the Vampire (1994) 😀

Interview with the Vampire is such a unique film. Brad Pitt plays Louis, a vampire who sits down with a young reporter (Christian Slater) and confesses everything. His story starts in 1790s New Orleans, where Louis has lost it all and wants to die. Then Lestat arrives with a very different way out.

Let’s talk about Tom Cruise. People hated the casting. Even Anne Rice complained, until she saw the movie and changed her tune. Cruise is having the time of his life as Lestat: funny, cruel, needy and weirdly charming all at once. Every scene he’s in captivates.

Pitt plays the opposite. Louis hates what he is and spends two centuries drowning in guilt. He’s the only one with a conscience in a world without one.

The real scene-stealer is a twelve-year-old Kirsten Dunst as Claudia, a child vampire whose mind keeps aging while her body never does. When she cuts her hair and it grows right back, it’s chilling. Dunst plays that fury better than actors three times her age.

It looks gorgeous, too: candlelit mansions, foggy streets, a Paris theater packed with creepy vampires. Forget the sparkly romance of Twilight. This is dark, bloody and sad in all the right ways.

If you like your horror with real heart, this is a must. Watch it once for Cruise and Dunst. Then watch it again for everything you missed.
