– An Enjoyable, Albeit Forgettable Entry in the Crime-Thriller Space
Fast Charlie is one of those movies that, while not necessarily bad, doesn’t leave much of a lasting impression. I struggled to recall many of the highlights, and although it’s been a year since I watched it, I think that still says a lot about the film’s overall impact. It’s one of those middle-of-the-road action thrillers you can throw on in the background, enjoy for a moment, and then move on from without much thought.
The story follows Charlie, a hitman with a moral code of sorts. While the story has promise, it doesn’t do much to stand out in a genre already crowded with sharper, more memorable entries. There are a few solid scenes, and the pacing is passable, but it never really builds momentum in a way that pulls you in. More than anything, it just coasts.
The performances are serviceable. The cast does fine with what they’re given, but nothing truly pops. There’s no single character or moment that lingers after the credits roll. It’s the kind of film that wants to be a gritty, character-driven action flick—but it never fully commits to either the grit or the depth. As a result, it ends up feeling a bit flat.
I wouldn’t call Fast Charlie a waste of time—it has its moments and might scratch the itch if you’re in the mood for something simple and low-stakes. But if you’re looking for a crime thriller that packs emotional weight, edge, or originality, this probably isn’t it.
In the end, Fast Charlie isn’t terrible, and it isn’t great—and sometimes that’s enough. But for a genre capable of delivering so much intensity and style, it’s a little disappointing when a film fades this quickly from memory.
