How to Movie Privacy Policy

How to Movie is built to be private by design. The app has no ads, no analytics SDKs, no third-party tracking, and does not sell your data.

Information the app stores

How to Movie stores the ratings and preferences you create inside the app, including your movie ratings, your watchlist, the personal prediction models it builds from your ratings, your cached taste profile, and your app settings. This information is stored locally on your device.

TMDb account and film data

Film details are provided by The Movie Database (TMDb). If you sign in with your TMDb account, the app reads your ratings and watchlist from that account and can write ratings and watchlist changes back to it, so your data stays in sync with TMDb. Your use of TMDb is subject to TMDb’s own terms and privacy policy. This product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.

Optional AI Discovery

AI Discovery is off by default. If you choose to enable it, you provide your own API key for your selected AI provider (such as Anthropic or OpenAI), and that key is stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device. When the feature runs, a summary of your taste is sent to that provider to generate recommendations, subject to the provider’s own terms and privacy policy. If you never enable AI Discovery, no taste data is sent to any AI provider.

Information collected by the developer

The app does not collect personal information from you for the developer and does not transmit your ratings or taste model to the developer. If you contact support, the information you choose to send in that message may be used to respond to your request.

Analytics, ads, and tracking

How to Movie does not use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or tracking technologies, and it does not sell personal data.

Backups and Apple services

Your device settings, Apple account settings, iCloud backup settings, and App Store activity may be handled by Apple according to Apple’s own policies. How to Movie does not control those Apple services.

Children’s privacy

How to Movie is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the app changes. If data practices change materially, this page should be updated before the new version is released.
