– Solid Action, But a Stretched Finish
I just watched A Working Man, and as expected, it was another fun ride with Jason Statham doing what he does best—beating up bad guys. I don’t know what it is, but I could honestly watch him take down villains for the rest of my life. His screen presence is consistent, his fight scenes are satisfying, and the action in this film definitely delivers. It’s no John Wick, but certainly fits the bill if you are in the mood for popcorn-action.
The pacing is solid for most of the runtime. It moves quickly enough to stay engaging without feeling chaotic. The action sequences are punchy and well-staged, and the movie does a good job of keeping things entertaining. It’s not trying to reinvent the wheel—it’s just trying to have a good time, and for the most part, it succeeds.
That said, there are a few letdowns. David Harbour was featured in the trailer, and I was excited to see how he would factor into the story. Unfortunately, most of his screen time is in the trailer. He has very little impact on the overall plot, which makes his limited presence feel like a missed opportunity.
The biggest issue, though, is the ending. The film drags toward the finish line, and it really should have wrapped up about 15 minutes earlier. There are two or three points where it could have ended cleanly, but it just keeps going—and that kills the momentum a bit. Then, just when you think it’s over, they leave the door wide open for a sequel. That’s a tough sell for a movie that, while enjoyable, is ultimately just okay. Sequels already have a high bar to clear, and when the first film doesn’t leave a strong mark, it makes the idea of a follow-up feel forced.
All in all, A Working Man is a fun action flick that’s worth a weekend watch—but not quite strong enough to make you crave a second round.
